The use of Boron Nitride (BN) Ceramics

Image
Basic information about Boron Nitride (BN) Boron nitride (BN)  is a thermally and chemically resistant refractory material, a compound of boron and nitrogen. It exists in various crystalline forms that are isoelectronic to a similarly structured carbon lattice. The hexagonal form corresponding to graphite is the most stable and soft among BN polymorphs. With excellent thermal and chemical stability,  boron nitride ceramics  are used in high-temperature equipment and metal casting, which has potential use in nanotechnology. In the neutral reducing atmosphere, Boron Nitride’s heat resistance can be to 2000℃, the use temperature in nitrogen and argon can reach 2800℃, the stability is poor in the oxygen atmosphere below 1000℃. The expansion coefficient of hexagonal boron nitride is equivalent to that of quartz, but the thermal conductivity is ten times that of quartz. Main applications of boron nitride ceramics

Image
Basic overview of   boron nitride ceramics In its solid form,  hexagonal boron nitride   (HBN) is often called “white graphite” because its microstructure is similar to graphite. However, unlike graphite, boron nitride is an excellent electrical insulator with a higher oxidation temperature. It has high thermal conductivity and good thermal shock resistance and can be easily machined to almost any shape tolerance. After processing, it is ready for use without additional heat treatment or sintering operations. Boron nitride is a heat- and chemical-resistant refractory compound composed primarily of the elements boron and nitrogen. Its chemical formula is BN. Other common descriptions of boron nitride include hexagonal boron nitride (H-BN) and hot-pressed boron nitride. Boron nitride exists in various crystal forms that are isoelectronic to the similarly structured carbon lattice. The most stable form of boron nitride is the hexagonal form corresponding to graphite. ...
